Globe Composite Solutions Introduces High-Strength Gasket Material

Brandonite® 1200-60A is liquid castable and twice as strong as rubber material

Dallas TX and Rockland MA, February 20, 2008 — Globe Composite Solutions, Ltd. announced today the introduction of Brandonite®1200-60A, a high-strength liquid castable material for demanding gasket and sealing applications.  Originally developed by Globe for use aboard US Navy nuclear submarines, Brandonite®1200-60A is now available for commercial applications such as diaphragms, bladders, gaskets, seals, vibration dampeners and energy absorbers.

Brandonite®1200-60A is a polyurethane compound material based on MDI Polyether chemistry which combines the properties of high tensile strength and elongation with outstanding elasticity properties and excellent resistance to seawater, oils, chemicals and UV degradation.  Weighing 23% less than Buna-N rubber, this material has double the tensile strength and has a wide service range of -20ºF to 200ºF.  Brandonite®1200-60A is available in FDA and non-FDA approved grades.

Since Brandonite®1200-60A is liquid castable, large gaskets and seals can be manufactured with lower tooling costs when compared to traditional compression-molded rubber products.  Also, Globe’s advanced polyurethane processing technologies significantly reduces the presence of voids in the material.  As a result, one-piece gaskets or seals can now be made in virtually any size without the risk of compromising strength along knit-lines or compression zones.

“Brandonite®1200-60A can be modified to increase or decrease certain physical properties such as tensile strength, rebound, durometer or elongation”, said Dr. Xiujun Wang, Director of Polymer Technologies at Globe Composite Solutions.  “It is mold and fungi resistant, which makes the material ideal for marine, agricultural, tropical and water/sewage treatment applications.”

“Brandonite®1200-60A is versatile material that has performed flawlessly for over 10 years in various military applications”, said Carl W. Forsythe, President and CEO of Globe.  “It is ideal for demanding applications where performance and durability is absolutely critical”, he added.
